Queluz National Palace
National Palace of Queluz
The National Palace of Queluz, often called the “Portuguese Versailles,” is one of the most remarkable examples of 18th-century architecture in Portugal. Built between 1747 and 1794, it served as a summer residence for the Portuguese royal family.
The palace combines Baroque, Rococo, and Neoclassical styles, with richly decorated interiors featuring gilded woodcarvings, frescoes, and elegant furniture. Among its highlights are the Throne Room, the Music Room, and the Ambassadors’ Room, all of which showcase the grandeur of royal life.
Surrounding the palace are extensive formal gardens designed in the French style, adorned with fountains, statues, and canals, creating a setting of harmony and refinement. Today, the National Palace of Queluz is open to the public as a museum, offering visitors a journey into Portugal’s royal history and artistic heritage.
