Salir castle
The Castle of Salir is a historical fortress located in the village of Salir, in the inland Algarve region of Portugal. Believed to have been built during the Moorish occupation, the castle played a strategic role in the defense of the territory during the Christian Reconquest. Today, only remnants of the original structure remain, including parts of the defensive walls, but the site still offers a fascinating glimpse into the region’s medieval past. Set on a hilltop, the castle provides stunning panoramic views over the surrounding countryside, making it a popular stop for history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
